TBWASMP’s Hana Water BIllboard wins a Grand Clio

NEW YORK — CLIO Image in partnership with WWD, an extension of the CLIO legacy honoring creative excellence in the fashion and beauty industries, today announced its 2015 Grand CLIO Image Award winners. The honorees and creatives were on-hand to celebrate at the second-annual event on May 5 at the Plaza Hotel in New York. Bravo TV’s Andy Cohen hosted the evening, which saw Calvin Klein, Inc., ICONOCLAST and DDB Stockholm among this year’s top winners.

The Grand CLIO Image Award, the program’s highest honor, recognizes work in the advertising industry that pushes the boundaries of creativity in a given medium, as selected by a panel of elite industry innovators and leaders. The 2015 Grand CLIO Image Award winners are:

TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno won a Grand CLIO, the highest honour in the out-of-home category, for their ‘HANA Water Billboard’ campaign.

The agency launched the creative outdoor campaign for Shokubutsu HANA, in an effort to help clean Manila’s extremely polluted Pasig River.

HANA, the Japanese natural cosmetics brand, believes in ‘healthy beauty brought about by the restorative power of nature’, and therefore created an 88-foot long billboard made of vetiver – a grass that absorbs deadly toxins.

Vetiver is often used to treat wastewater and landfills, and the billboard can cleanse up to 8,000 gallons a day. More than sending a brand message, the billboards were setting an example to the community.

This is the second Grand CLIO award that the Philippines has taken home. The very first was bagged by DM9JaymeSyfu’s ‘TXBKS’ for Smart Communications.

“CLIO Image celebrates visionary work that is raising the bar in the fashion, beauty and retail advertising industries,” said Nicole Purcell, president, CLIO. “Mother New York’s Together Sweater and Topshop’s #LIVETRENDS are only two examples of the work that had us buzzing this year. All our 2015 Grand CLIO Image winners and their respective creative projects perfectly illustrate the future of this industry.”

The ceremony included a special presentation to honor iconic fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier with the inaugural CLIO Image Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his career-long contributions that have made a lasting impact on the industry. Among Demarchelier’s best-known photographs are a series of portraits of Princess Diana, taken with her sons, which helped establish the Princess of Wales’ image as “the people’s princess.” Demarchelier was later made the princess’ official portraitist.

Heidi Klum also accepted this year’s Honorary CLIO Image Award, in recognition of her vast body of creative work throughout the beauty and fashion industries. Klum started her career as a fashion model and successfully and expertly transitioned to a career in entertainment and design. Klum’s impact as a businesswoman and style influencer grows stronger with each new endeavor, inspiring creativity and risk-taking for a new generation of artists. Speaking to the elite crowd, Tim Gunn introduced Klum, touting her many accomplishments.

Pret-a-Reporter presented the Excellence in Commercial Styling Award to Edward Enninful, fashion and style director of W magazine. The British stylist’s risky and edgy approach to his work earned him the inaugural honor from The Hollywood Reporter property. Edward celebrated the honor with his guests for the evening, which included fashion models Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn, Anna Ewers and Maria Borges.
