Three GMA docus win at the 2009 US International Film and Video Festival

Reality dramedies move aside!  Three GMA network episodes have won big at the recent US International Film and Video Festival (USIFVF).

The GMA Reporter’s Notebook episodes “Lunok-Droga” (Filipino Drug Mules) won silver, and “Pinays for Export” (Filipinas for Export), as well as I-Witness episode Batang Langoy (Child Swimmers) received Certificates at the recent US-IFVF.

“Lunok Droga” won silver in the Social Issues Production-Documentary Category.  The episode showed host Jiggy Manicad witness firsthand a joint-sting operation between the Philippine and Malaysian police to bust a Nigerian drug syndicate.

A first for Philippine television, co-host Maki Pulido’s “Pinays for Export” exposed a sex trade-trafficking trail from the Philippines, crossing Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macau, while Jay Taruc’s Batang Langoy focused on the children of Magalumbi Island who swim two kilometers daily to attend school.  Both shows bagged Certificates for Creative Excellence, also in the Social Issues Production-Documentary category.
