Solar shows Mad Men and 30 Rock win big at Emmys

< height="150" border="0" align="left" width="200" src=" madmen. " alt="" />Typhoons or not, local channel Solar must be feeling pretty sunny now.  On the heels of their Beijing Olympics coverage, two of their shows, Mad Men (on 2nd Avenue) and 30 Rock (JackTV) did well in Monday night’s Emmy Awards, US television’s equivalent of the Oscars.

Set in the pre-psychedelic, pre-feminism 1960s, Mad Men is a dark ad agency melo-drama that dissects the latent angst of that seemingly innocent time. It is the first time that the prestigious Best Drama Emmy has gone to a show from basic cable, rather than one of the big three networks or HBO.  (Critical adoration aside, Mad Men continues to draw indifferent ratings.  No figures yet on internet downloads and Makati Cinema Square, though.)
