Japan led Asia’s finalists in both Cyber and Design, according to shortlists released yesterday in Cannes for awarding tonight.
Japan and Singapore were the only Asian countries to make it to the shortlist for Cyber, proving that the region still has a way to go in translating our frenzied digital activity into award-winning creative. In Design, Japan led Asia with 12 finalists, followed by India (10), Malaysia (6), China and Singapore (2 each), Thailand, the Philippines and Hongkong (1 each).
For Press, China leads the Asian shortlists with 20, followed by Singapore (18) and Thailand (11). Both the latter countries are traditionally strong in print work. Following are India (8) and Malaysia (5), Hong Kong (3) and Indonesia the Philippines (2 each).
The Philippines has 3 finalists to root for tonight: two in Press (TBWASMP’s elegant “Lily” and “Hibiscus” print ads for Boysen Paint) and one in Design, BBDO Guerrero’s ‘DIY Poster’ for the Creative Guild. Good luck!
