DM9JaymeSyfu, Y&R Philippines win in Epica 2013

MANILA – December 4, 2013 – DM9JaymeSyfu and Y&R Philippines were among the winners of this year’s Epica Awards, the only worldwide creative award judged by journalists from the marketing and communications press.

DM9JaymeSyfu bagged a Silver Award in the Mobile Communications category, for its ‘Smart TXTBKS’ campaign for Smart Communications. Y&R Philippines took him a Silver Award under the Consumer Direct category and a Bronze Award in the Media Innovation – Alternative Media category, both for its ‘Dengue Bottle’ campaign for Maynilad Water Services.

Both campaigns showed how resourcefulness and innovation can be used to come up with simple tools that can change, and even save lives.

‘Smart TXTBKS’ repurposed old SIM cards into textbook, providing a solution for schoolchildren who have to walk to school carrying a heavy load. The low-tech solution turns analog phones into e-readers, a much more accessible alternative to expensive tablets.

Meanwhile, ‘Dengue Bottle’ is a simple bottle mosquito trap, made using clean water, brown sugar, and yeast. The mixture produces carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes, trapping and killing them inside the bottle. Maynilad then distributed these bottles to Filipinos, which led to 55 percent fewer dengue cases and 38 percent fewer deaths from dengue. http://results.epica-awards.com/4686.html

In June, the campaign bagged the country’s first Cannes Lion of 2013, a Bronze under the Promo & Activation category.
