The Philippine Association of National Advertisers inducts its 2010 PANA and PANA Foundation Boards

Held at the Mandarin Oriental last January 28, Johnip Cua, Ad Foundation chairman inducted this year’s Officers and Board of Directors of the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) and the PANA Foundation.  Led by its President, Margot Torres, who chaired the PANA-hosted, 21st Philippine Advertising Congress, the association emerges from hurdling what seemed an insurmountable task, to get down to business, and tackle another year of achieving targets and goals for 2010.

“2009 was a very challenging year.  It started with a global economic crisis and ended with a major environmental challenge.  Though national calamities struck, it made us step back and dip into our conscience,” described Torres, of the year the advertising industry banded together to make a significant difference.

Torres identified a couple of items on their priorities list.  One is Brand Camp where young junior marketing people can participate and compete to be the best team that will be sent to the Cannes Young Lions Marketers Competition.   Another item on the list is to work on getting a resolution on the 21.4 minutes recommended program advertising.

2010 PANA Board

John Rojo, PANA auditor, and in-charge of the Communications committee specified another task.  “Our goal is to make AdEdge, (the official PANA magazine) not just a publication for the trade.  We need to use it to air the position of PANA and other industry issues,” said Rojo. “The goal is to make it self-liquidating,” he added.

After two years at the helm of PANA, from 2008 to 2009, Charmaine Canillas gets behind the wheel of the PANA Foundation.  Extolling the benefits of being a PANA member, Canillas included, “Opportunities to learn from other companies’ best marketing practices, a captive audience for your brands, (access to) established support should there be issues that impact your business, and a venue to be heard.”

More importantly, and beyond mere business, Canillas stressed that PANA provided the means by which members could “help shape the future of the local advertising industry, as well as earn from the support and partnership that enrich, and directly benefit your company.”

2010 PANA Foundation Board

“The 2010 Board (members) are young and dynamic, and so driven.  They belong to actively advertising companies.  They are aware of issues and are going to push forward,” enthused an energetic Torres.

The 2010 PANA president was beaming in the aftermath of the vibrant event that included guest speaker Efren Peñaflorida, CNN’s Hero of the Year, who encouraged the 2010 Board to “look beyond limitations, stay united as a group, and for all individuals to open their hearts and become heroes.”

PANA donated PhP306 thousand to Peñaflorida’s education foundation, Dynamic Teen Company, representing the 306 association members.
