TV5 Media Center to rise in Mandaluyong City

PHILIPPINES, JANUARY 24, 2011 – TV5 held the groundbreaking of its new Media Center yesterday. The site is on the corner of Reliance and Sheridan Streets in Mandaluyong City. Phase 1 of the 63,000-square-meter complex should be finished by late 2011 and the news group will be the first to move in, followed by entertainment when Phase 2 is completed next year. The Media Center will house the corporate office, TV production space, and cutting-edge broadcast facilities, including six TV studios, radio booths, post-production facilities and other creative environments which will all incorporate current technologies from Europe and America. It is expected to be completed by mid- to late 2012.

The Media Center features a dynamic facade representing the network’s futuristic directions as well as a noble tribute to the achievements of ‘Broadcast Through the Ages.’ Thus, the very early start of broadcast telephony is represented by some sentences of Morse Code in rhythmic bas relief marching across the front elevation of the Media Center.

Top Mandaluyong City government officials joined TV5 President & CEO Ray Espinosa, COO Roberto Barreiro and Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) at the ceremony. “TV5’s presence in Mandaluyong’s Central Business District is a great boost to our city’s development as a global business hub,"  said Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos. "We look forward to the completion of the TV5 Media Center so that we will finally have a major broadcast network in the heart of our city.” MVP revealed that the Media Center is the single largest investment of MediaQuest, the holdings company of TV5 and a PLDT subsidiary, amounting to billions of pesos. The network currently operates from five locations: Novaliches, Quezon City; Broadway, New Manila; Skydome, SM North EDSA; Marajo Tower, Bonifacio Global City; and at the PLDT Locsin building in Makati City. The Novaliches and Broadway offices and studios will eventually be retained.

TV5 tripled its 2009 revenues in 2010 and reportedly achieved 20% market share in primetime. Espinosa announced that Aksyon TV, a free TV news channel, will be launched next month and the international channel in North America by May 2011.
