3M, Evernote partnership bridges analog and digital in new Post-it feature

GLOBAL – September 27, 2013 – The ubiquitous Post-it Notes are getting a digital life as 3M and Evernote partner to come up with a set of new tricks for the simple yet extremely useful tool.

3M and Evernote announced the partnership in a joint press release on September 26.

"Starting today, a photo taken with the new Post-it Note Camera feature available exclusively in Evernote for iOS 7 will instantly transform any Post-it Note into a digital memory that can be saved, shared and viewed anywhere," they said.

According to Jesse Singh, vice president and general manager of the 3M stationery and office supplies division, the collaboration demonstrates how technology has finally caught up with the simplicity of the Post-it Note.

“Post-it Brand and Evernote share a vision of the future and a common belief in giving consumers great experiences, both in the analog and digital space. This is the beginning of a growing partnership that underscores the Post-it Brand commitment to developing new and innovative solutions that help people be more productive in their daily lives,” Singh said.

Post-it Notes get their new digital life through a Post-it Note Camera feature which Evernote developed exclusively for their re-designed app for iOS 7.

"For us at Evernote, Post-it® Notes are a Hero Product. We strive for the sort of flexible, instantly-understandable usefulness that draws hundreds of millions of people to purchase Post-it® Brand products. There is one drawback. As ubiquitous as they are, they’re also, well, attached to stuff. That’s where Evernote comes in," the note-taking app said in a blog post on September 26.

The company announced its latest update to Evernote for iPhone and iPad – the new Post-it Note Camera, which lets the user take multiple photos of Post-it Notes in a single session.

"Evernote then recognizes the color, extracts the handwriting, enhances it and finally places it onto a digital representation of the paper inside a note," Evernote said.

Apart from making the notes digital, the app allows one to assign automatic actions to four colors: electric yellow, limeade, neon pink, and electric blue. Actions include filing the note into a specific notebook, assigning a tag, and adding a Reminder.

Evernote and 3M also created a holder for the Post-it Notes that allow the user to organize notes by choosing colors depending on the need.

"We’re incredibly excited to kick off this partnership with a company and product that has been such an inspiration for us. This is only the beginning," Evernote said.
