Jean-Claude Van Damme to do ‘The Epic Split’ in between two moving trucks for new Volvo ad

GLOBAL – November 14, 2013 – Action star Jean-Claude Van Damme has performed his famous full split in a variety of situations – in the middle of railroad tracks, while playing bongos, and in a tuxedo.

This time, Volvo Trucks presents Van Damme performing the stunt in a new ad called ‘The Epic Split.’

"With this stunt, we will demonstrate steering precision and direction stability," Jan-Inge Svensson, the engineer behind the development of the system’s software at Volvo Trucks, explained in a teaser.

"We’re going to drive forward, of course," responded Van Damme.

"No. We will drive backwards," Svensson said, demonstrating with two model trucks. "So, the trucks will be placed closely together. And you will be standing on the side mirrors. One foot on each mirror," he said.

Svensson continued to explain that the trucks would move backwards, then slowly separate for Van Damme to perform one of his famous splits.

"We’re going to open up slowly so you have plenty of time to perform the split," he said.

"But wait a second. If they keep on opening up I can fall down to the ground," said Van Damme, sounding worried.

"After a while, they will stop opening up and they will keep the distance," Svensson assured the action star, who then responds with a simple "Okay."

The two then walk away from the model trucks, and Enya’s Only Time plays in the background while Van Damme is seen behind the wheel of one of the trucks.

In the driver’s seat, he looks perfectly comfortable and relaxed, probably a very different picture from what he will look like when he performs ‘The Epic Split.’

‘The Epic Split’ will premiere on November 14 on YouTube.
