PHILIPPINES, September 26, 2013 – If you said Facebook, you guessed right!
The social network came out as the top smartphone app, not only in the Philippines, but in Indonesia and Malaysia as well, according to Nielsen’s Southeast Asia Top 10 Smartphone Apps ranking. In Thailand, Facebook came second only to messaging app LINE.
Using app penetration and average time spent per month, Nielsen determined the region’s most engaging apps. In the Philippines, people spend their average 41 minutes a day on apps stalking people on Facebook, saving load by chatting for free on several messaging apps, looking up this and that on a search app, and wasting extra lives on a game app.
The top ten smartphone apps in the Philippines are:

- YouTube
- CandyCrush Saga
- Viber
- LINE
- Google Search
- Skype
- Facebook Messenger
"The importance and influence of apps within today’s highly-competitive mobile market has soared in recent years," said Sagar Phadke, director of Nielsen’s Telecom and Technology practice in Southeast Asia, North Asia, and Pacific.
He noted: "Smartphone users in Asia are highly engaged in apps usage, and the app user base in Asia is growing rapidly, presenting huge opportunities for brand marketers to leverage apps to build lasting connections with consumers."
