Universal McCann keeps $40 million Globe Media AOR

Universal McCann, the media discipline of McCann Worldgroup, remains the Media Agency of Record for Globe Telecom, after a pitch vs. Mindshare and Zenith Optimedia.

The retention is a huge boost for UM, which lost Coke AOR to Starcom early in 2008. An entirely local account that has been estimated at $40 million, Globe Media AOR is one of the biggest prizes in local media.

It was the first time the account had been pitched in over 10 years with UM, which had kept the business through several 3-year-reviews.  During the last one in 2005, UM was awarded the entire account without a pitch, including portions that had previously been with heavyweights Starcom and PhD.
The bulk of Globe’s creative duties are with McCann-owned Harrison Communications, which launched the Globe Handyphone brand in 1998.  Some business is also with PublicisJimenez Basic.
