Marilyn Manson’s words of wisdom and madness by Kat Limchoc

FRANCE – In the 9th Annual Grey Music Seminar, the Cannes Lions audience got to see and hear Marilyn Manson in the flesh. Looking almost normal in a black suit and in what he called his “no make-up look”, he still remained true to his controversial image with his provocative answers as he was interviewed by Tor Myhren, Worldwide Chief Creative Officer of the Grey Group.

Here are 13 quotes from the self-proclaimed “God of F__k” himself:

1. “Everybody needs to make a living. I have to buy cat food for my cat.”

2. “Don’t ask me my age. I am immortal.”

3. “I think America needs someone like me to make it not suck as much as it could.”

4. “It takes me 5 minutes to do my make-up.”

5. “There always has to be chaos, but it has to be focused. Like a tornado.”

6. “I was on eBay… I bought a portable embalming table. Thought it would be a cool thing to get girls to have sex on.”

7. “I am awkward and shy.”

8. “My notebooks are crazy as F__k! It’s like Beautiful Mind.”

9. “If everyone can be famous, the best rises to the top.”

10. “It’s the nipple that’s the most important part of the breast. Not the size of it.”

11. “My dad’s second piece of advice: when you get a job, fire someone on the first day. Then everyone will fear you.”

12. “If you don’t like it, change it.”

13. “I booked a show before I wrote any music.”

That last quote was in reference to the fact that he had apparently picked out his name, a combination of Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson’s made up names, had thought of his act and his costumes before he composed a single song. With his brand of madness, Marilyn Manson seems to have had an instinct for branding from the very beginning. And so, what can we learn from this? Hopefully not to go on eBay to find that embalming table.

Kat Limchoc is the Executive Creative Director of Blackpencil Manila and is currently attending the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2015.
