DOH promotes a loud yet safe New Year with the safest firecracker

THE PHILIPPINES, DECEMBER 29, 2011: In celebration of the coming 2012, the Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) once again calls for a safe and injury-free New Year by launching “SFX: The Safest Firecracker” in line with their Aksyon: Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR) program in December 28.

Developed by DM9JaymeSyfu’s Herbert Hernandez, the world’s safest firecracker comes in the form of a CD, which is packaged to look like an extra large Pla-Pla (a Philippine firecracker), containing sounds of the following firecrackers: 5 star, Fireworks Symphony, Judas Belt, kwitis, luces, Super Lolo, trompillo, watusi, and Whistle Bomb.

According to reports, at least 500 CDs are going to be distributed to all local governments nationwide. The tracks are also available for download via DOH’s website: www.doh.gov.ph.

According to a report from GMAnetwork.com, as of Dec. 28 there are already 133 fireworks-related injuries recorded since they have started the annual surveillance in Dec.21. A total of 972 cases of fireworks-related injuries were recorded during the Dec.21, 201-Jan. 5, 2011 surveillance period.

Practical and safe, the “safest firecracker” might be the answer for a fun and injury-free New Year’s celebration.
