MANILA – December 9, 2013 – Hoping to address the issue of misunderstood medical prescriptions, a Cebu-based team of developers have come up with a system to ensure that doctor’s orders are correctly followed.
"There have been a rising number of medication errors associated with manual prescription in the Philippines, that’s how the idea of PinoyRX came about," shared Jonas Quilantang of PinoyRX, a cloud based solution that unites three groups of users with one platform.
Doctors, patients, and pharmacies can use PinoyRX to share information, and electronic prescriptions in a more precise manner, Quilantang said.
The team created an e-prescription system, beginning with a mobile-responsive website which doctors can use for free. Since the instructions are now computerized, there is a lower chance that the patient will misunderstand the doctor’s handwriting. "With a preset of information available on the app, doctors can now write prescription with a click of a button efficiently producing a clearer and accurate prescription," he said.
Also, there is no need to print out the prescription, as copies may be sent by email or SMS. "With PinoyRx, patients can now review prescription information and clinic visits. An automatic reminder feature ensures medication intake," he said.
Still, patients will have to present a hard copy of the prescription, as a doctor’s signature is required in order to purchase prescription medicine.
Meanwhile, linkages with the different pharmacies makes it easier to purchase medicines.
Apart from an easier prescription process, the system also provides doctors with an online database of patients, which they can access even outside the clinic. Patients can also access their medical history online.
"What makes the product unique is the connectivity it gives to the three users giving them convenience and accurate information," Quilantang said.
Following the website, PinoyRX will develop a mobile application. PinoyRX was among the finalists at the Social Innovation Camp Asia 2013 Regional Summit in Singapore, after winning the Social Innovation Camp for Health in Cebu.
