MANILA, JUNE 21, 2013 – Graphic designer and 2013 AIGA Medal winner Lucille Tenazas returns to Manila this July to conduct a master class for both design educators and professionals at the Ayala Museum.
Value of Personal Voice in Design Education on July 1 is a whole-day workshop, where educators will explore and discuss relevant teaching methodologies. Participants will learn the importance of personal voice as a filter with which empathy and collaborative efforts can be addressed.
“For educators who shepherd impressionable and evolving design minds, it is important to be abreast of current methodologies while remaining true to the pursuit of critical ideas and concepts, regardless of medium or platform,” Tenazas explains.
Meanwhile, Provocative Design Thinking for Professional Designers will be held from July 3 to 5.
“As professional designers, we are constantly searching for inspiration as a way to refresh our practice. Opportunities to break away from the routine of daily life are often impossible in a world of fast moving project deadlines and resulting client-designer compromises,” says Tenazas.
Participants of this three-day workshop will work on a design project, while receiving ongoing feedback and engaging in critique conversations.
Tenazas is the Henry Wolf Professor of Communication Design at Parsons The New School for Design. She is the founder and principal of Tenazas Design, a communication and graphic design firm working primarily on projects for cultural institutions.
She was the recipient of the National Design Award in Communication Design from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in 2002, and was recently honored with the AIGA Medal for 2013, recognized for a lifetime achievement in design.
Her personal journey from the Philippines to San Francisco combined with the collective experiences of living in the west and east coasts of the United States have had a profound effect on her work. This creative trajectory has resulted in a hybrid aesthetic and a lifelong interest in the complexity of language and the overlapping relationship of meaning, form, and content.
This master class is part of Ayala Museum’s DesignTalks education program, which recognizes the achievements of internationally distinguished Filipino designers and provides a platform for them to communicate their ideas with creative aspirants. This is made possible with the support of Picasso Boutique Serviced Residences, Hewlett Packard, Power Mac Center, and Adobo Magazine.
