GLOBAL, MARCH 14, 2012: Image and video hosting site Flickr has created Meetup.com, a portal for its community of users to plan events in the real world.
Flickr’s new portal functions as its main event platform where users can find events taking place nearest to their current location. Users may also search for their own location whether there’s an event already registered, and if there’s not they can create their own event and invite other users in.
Weeks after its sneak peak announcement, Flickr has already organized more than 228 meet ups around the world. Flickr encourages its users to organize events to share their common interests such as photo walks, photoshoots, or just hang out. Users can share their expriences either by posting photos or through social media Twitter by tweeting with the hashtag #FlickrMeetup.
