DJ Gilles Peterson to spin creativity and culture at JWT Spikes seminar

ASIA-PACIFIC – SINGAPORE, SEPTEMBER 16, 2011: Internationally renowned British DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson will join JWT’s Regional ECD Tay Guan Hin and Regional Planning Director Pete Heskett on Monday, September 19 at the Spikes Asia 2011 seminar entitled “Breeding Creativity with Cultural Diversity.”

As an acclaimed musical tastemaker, Peterson spreads his influence on music listeners around the globe, mostly through his internationally syndicated Worldwide radio show and his weekly show on BBC radio 1. In addition to DJ and broadcaster, the roles Peterson has taken on include producer, compiler, label owner and record collector.

In the JWT seminar, Tay and Heskett will focus on the agency’s celebration of borderless creativity while making a case for how multicultural experiences liberate people from their current mindset and expand creative thinking. The two will welcome Peterson on stage for a conversation about how this internationalist philosophy has been influential in the DJ’s career and has led him to global success in the music industry, with Peterson inserting slices of music mixes to illustrate.

Continuing with the internationalist theme, the presenters and guest will look at a series of photographs by esteemed photographer Nadav Kander and hear from the artist via a pre-recorded audio interview on how his series, “Yangtze, The Long River,” is a reflection of his open-mindedness toward international experiences.

Speaking on the seminar’s topic, Heskett stated, “Globalisation is often criticised as an anti-creative force – something that eradicates differences and leads to a dull global mono-culture. However, research demonstrates that the opposite is actually true. Multi-cultural exchange is a driver of some of the greatest creativity the world sees. Both Gilles and Nadav are inspiring examples of the fact that one of the most important strategies for creative individuals and organisations is to cultivate an internationalist mindset.”

“Breeding Creativity with Cultural Diversity” takes place at 10:35am on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Suntec City Convention Center in Singapore. For more information, visit www.spikes.asia.
