Media/Art Kitchen Manila’s SENSORIUM features Japanese and Southeast Asian artists

MANILA – November 4, 2013 – Media/Art Kitchen Manila will feature Japanese and Southeast Asian artists in the exhibition component of the program SENSORIUM. 
 
Artists who will be featured include: Kenichi Hagihara, Takashi Makino, mamoru, Yuichiro Tamura, Tetsuya Umeda, Lyota Yagi (Japan), lifepatch, Anggun Priambodo (Indonesia), Fairuz Sulaiman (Malaysia), Ringo Bunoan, Kawayan De Guia, Tad Ermitano, Liby Limoso, Manny Montelibano, Renan Ortiz, Maria Rosalie Zerrudo (Philippines), Chulayarnnon Siriphol (Thailand), Bruce Quek (Singapore).
 
The exhibit opens at the Ayala Museum on November 7 at 6 p.m. A series of performances will follow the reception featuring Singaporean artist Bani Haykal and local artists Caliph8, Mannet Villariba, Mel Araneta, Paolo Garcia (Pasta Groove) and Erick Calilan. 
 
The goal of SENSORIUM is engagement and accessibility of media, art and technology to celebrate the 40th year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, Ayala Museum said in a press release.
 
The Media/Art Kitchen in Manila is focused on contemporary art and technology directed to interact with the human sensorium, relating the "physical" to what is transmitted or perceived by the "sensorial", they said.
 
"A keen state of awareness or sensitivity emphasized by technology, the direction of motion, quantities, effects and sequences created by electricity, optics or simple machinery is intended to generate a state of awareness or feeling that one is in a specified state when confronted by simple technology," the release said.
 
Laboratories (Green Papaya Art Projects, 98B), Workshops/talks (De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde School of Design & Arts), as well as performances (Escolta) and Screenings (FDCP Cinematheque Baguio/IloIlo/Davao) are also scheduled to happen as part of the program.
 
SENSORIUM runs from November 8 to 24, 2013.
