Edelman still on top of PR

GLOBAL, SEPTEMBER 28, 2012 – Edelman is still number one worldwide, says The Holmes Report’s Top 250 Global Rankings 2012. Edelman, with 65 offices and over 4,000 employees worldwide, recorded a fee income of $614.9 million in 2011, a 15.7% jump from its $531.5 record in 2010.

Weber Shandwick and Fleishman-Hillard also retain their second and third position, respectively, with a $70million margin separating the two agencies. MSLGroup from France surged ahead Burson-Marsteller, recording a $474 million fee income – including all revenues from acquisitions made during 2011 – a 13.4% growth from 2010.

According to the report, the global public relations industry grew by just under 8% in 2011, ending the year with a combined $10 billion income. Publicly-held agencies were up around 6%, while independent firms grew by 10.4%. At least 66,000 people were employed by PR agencies worldwide in 2011.

WPP Group chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell feels “pretty good” about the prospects for global PR this year, saying that despite slack in the first five months of this year, the industry is still seeing “significant growth”. He adds the growth of new media to factors that has benefited the industry. “The rise of search, video content, display advertising, social networks and last but not least mobile has meant and will mean that public relations and public affairs become more and more important.”
