Travel: AirAsia to resume domestic flights in the Philippines from June 5

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Airline carrier AirAsia has announced that it will begin gradually resuming services in the Philippines from June 5, following the Philippine government’s directive of easing community quarantine restrictions.

According to the airline, this resumption will gradually increase to include international destinations by July 1.

“During the hibernation of our fleet, we took the time to step up our handling procedures to ensure that our guests have a swift and safe journey with us,” said AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla. “Needless to say, we are well prepared to welcome everyone onboard. As we resume our services around our network, AirAsia is determined to help rebuild our economy and country.”

Select flights are open for booking via the airasia.com website and the mobile app. Additional routes and flight schedules will be on the AirAsia website and mobile app, subject to approval from the authorities.

Operations for domestic flights will be temporarily moved to Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from its previous location at Terminal 4, as a temporary suspension of Terminal 4 operations continues until further notice from airport authorities.

“Guests can expect enhanced safety measures throughout the entire journey, including pre-flight, in-flight, and arrival processes. These include the mandatory wearing of face masks to be permitted to travel, amongst others. Guests are also advised to check and comply with measures implemented by local airport authorities for a smooth travel experience,” the release from AirAsia added.

AirAsia Chief Operations Officer Javed Malik previously shared what AirAsia’s new guidelines and processes will look like.

According to Malik, there will be new measures both in- and pre-flight. Pre-flight changes include temperature screenings at checkpoints, social distancing markers, the use of contactless technology, and of course, hand sanitizers at all processing points.
