Michael Wall appointed global CEO at Lowe; Steve Gatfield to Interpublic

New York, NY– At end-June, Interpublic Group Chairman and CEO Michael Roth and Lowe Worldwide Chairman Tony Wright announced significant developments in the senior management team at Lowe Worldwide.

Michael Wall is the agency’s new global CEO; while Steve Gatfield, whose three-year appointment as CEO of Lowe Worldwide is ending, steps into a part-time role as IPG EVP, as envisioned in his agreement with the holding company when he took the Lowe post.

Wright and Wall will work as partners in leading Lowe, and both will report directly to Roth.  The two will also be part of Lowe’s newly formed Management Committee.

According to UK ad publication Campaign, one of Wall’s main responsibilities will be to restore the luster of Lowe in the UK, which took a hit with the loss of the much-lauded Stella Artois account almost a year ago.

More relevant to offices in Asia, Campaign also reports that Wall will be pushing Lowe Worldwide’s new business proposition: “a network that can offer top-class creative on a global scale without being a micro-network or a global behemoth.” Adweek reports that Wall’s international experience at Fallon was a key factor in the hire.

Wall was the founding partner of Fallon London in 1998, where he helped develop Fallon into one of the industry’s most successful and awarded agencies, and subsequently rose to lead Fallon’s international operations. Prior to joining Fallon, Wall worked at Simons Palmer, a respected creative agency that became part of TBWA, and before that at Lowe Howard-Spink on clients like Tesco and Sony PlayStation.

Joining Wright and Wall on the Management Committee will be: Kevin Allen (Vice Chairman and head of business development), Matthew Bull (Chief Creative Officer), Hugh Doherty (Chief Financial Officer), Joy Hamlyn (Global HR Director) and Bert Moore (Chief Strategy Officer).
