Clear Channels, Momentum WW execute Philippines’ first live AR

MANILA, MARCH 4, 2013 – Bubbles floating before one’s eyes, filled with info about the things one sees on the street. This is not sci-fi; it’s educational augmented reality idea behind the National Geographic AR is the big idea behind last Christmas’ Bonifacio Global City street treat.

Momentum Worldwide tapped Clear Channels to execute the Philippines’ first live AR project, which aimed to promote the “home of passionate minds” through augmented reality. The live AR was a hit among passers-by, especially children, who spent time gleefully dancing with Santa Claus, playing with the elves and playing hula hoops with Mrs Claus.

“The agency was challenged by the client to think of something new. I recommended live AR since it has never been done locally. After showing them National Geographic AR, the client approved it,” said Varick Ong, general manager of Clear Channels.

Talking about the challenges encountered during the execution, Ong said, “Since it was the first time that the project was executed, we had to do several trials especially with the content: animations, talents, lighting and the shadows. We needed to make the audience feel that content was real.”

Now that the live AR barrier has already been broken in the Philippines, it’s safe to say that there will be more to come.
