FDCP to launch Summit and National Registry for Filipino Film Workers

For the first time, the government is taking a concrete step to professionalize the Filipino film industry and address the challenges and concerns of film workers. In a Press Conference held last August 2, 2017 at 77 Scout. Limbaga St. Diliman, Quezon City, Film Development Council of the Philippines Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño announced the creation of a National Registry for film workers to be maintained by FDCP which will serve as a database for the monitoring, protection, and provision of basic social services to film workers. This will be launched during the National Film Workers Summit to be held on August 30-31, 2017 at the UP Film Institute, UP Diliman, Quezon City. The Press Conference also served as the MOA Signing of FDCP with SSS, Philhealth, and Pag-Ibig officials.

Film workers, from actors, producers, directors, production staff, technical workers, creatives and artistic team, actively working for the past three (3) years are eligible to register in the Registry and will be able to avail of benefits such as SSS, Philhealth, and Pag-ibig services, workshops, forums, and legal consultations, as well as have access to job opportunities for local and foreign productions. “Currently, we have hundreds of film workers working independently or on a per project basis. Access to basic social services, security, and job opportunities are real issues with them and we hope that the National Registry will be a good start in addressing these gaps,” said Diño. “Film is an industry as it is an expression of art and we have to start looking after our worker. We are glad that we have the support of the social services institutions for this,” she added.

The 2-day Summit on August 30-31 is open to all interested film workers and will touch on topics of welfare, rights and services available to them. Onsite registration for the National Registry will be available during the Summit, as well as orientations on SSS, Philhealth, and Pag-Ibig services.
