The Future of Real-Time report highlights opportunities to remotely monitor well-being of global communities in real-time

GLOBAL, FEBRUARY 2011 – PSFK, the New York City based trends and innovation company has released a new report, PSFK Presents The Future of Real-Time. The report was prepared for United Nations Global Pulse, a project whose goal is to support governments in understanding what is happening to their most vulnerable populations in real-time.

The report, which marks PSFK’s second collaboration with a UN agency, aims to create a landscape within which governmental organizations, aid groups, business and individuals can contemplate innovation as it applies to the capture, synthesis and reaction to real-time information. In doing so, PSFK and Global Pulse hope to provide the inspiration necessary to contemplate leveraging real-time information to foster positive change.

According to Piers Fawkes, PSFK President, “Evolving data-rich technologies are providing organizations, governments and businesses with a rapid way to monitor the well-being of communities and individuals without significant infrastructure or spend. For those organizations whose success is dependent on the ability to quickly recognize and react to high-risk situations, the proliferation of rapid access to ‘good enough’ information is proving invaluable.”

Chris van der Walt, Strategic Communications Advisor at Global Pulse adds, “The potential of real-time technologies to transform the work of organizations like the United Nations cannot be overstated. This report highlights emerging
opportunities which will allow a greater awareness of facts on the ground making it possible to pinpoint signs of distress in populations affected by shocks much earlier. This will facilitate more rapid and targeted responses to reduce the damage done to communities and economies during times of crisis.”
