Samsung is top manufacturer in Millennial Media’s Mobile Mix Report

ASIA PACIFIC – November 27, 2013 – Samsung emerged the top manufacturer in Millennial Media’s latest Mobile Mix Report, which features data from the Millennial Media platform. The report includes statistics about mobile device, operating system, applications, and usage in Q3 2013 in Asia Pacific.

 
According to the report, Samsung accounted for 36 percent of all platform impressions in Q3 2013. Samsung had 14 devices in the Top 20 Devices Category, accounting for 24 percent of all phone impressions on Millennial Media’s platform.
 
Apple was the second largest manufacturer representing 27 percent of impressions. The Apple iPhone continued to be the top mobile phone in Q3 2013 with 16 percent impression share in Q3 2013.

Smartphones accounted for 73 percent of total platform impressions in Q3 2013, the report said. Impressions from non-phone connected devices grew five percentage points over the same quarter last year, representing 21 percent of total platform impressions.
 
Meanwhile, Android remained the leading Operating System, representing 67 percent of total platform impressions in Asia Pacific. iOS, which grew seven percentage points from the same quarter last year, was the second largest operating system in Q3 2013, representing 30 percent of platform impressions.
 
“Games” was the largest application category, maintaining its position from the previous quarter. This was followed by “Music & Entertainment” and “Productivity & Tools”.


Singapore

" width="300" height="286" hspace="5" align="right" alt="" />In Singapore, Apple remained the top manufacturer, followed closely by Samsung, based on impressions. Together they represented 86 percent of total platform impressions in Singapore in Q3 2013.
 
Apple’s iPhone was the number one mobile phone in Singapore, representing 33 percent of all device impressions, followed by Apple’s iPad that represented 12 percent of impressions.
 
Samsung had the second largest share of impressions, representing 34 percent of all platform impressions. 14 of the top 20 devices on Millennial Media’s platform in Q3 2013 were manufactured by Samsung. 
 
75 percent of total platform impressions in Singapore in Q3 2013 came from smartphones. Impressions from non-phone connected devices grew seven percentage points from the same quarter last year, representing 22 percent of total platform impressions.
 
Android was the top Operating System in Singapore, representing half of total platform impressions in Singapore. This represented a seven percentage growth from the same quarter from last year.
 
The highest number of impressions on the network came from “Entertainment & Music” applications.


Indonesia
 
In Indonesia, Samsung remained the largest manufacturer, driving 41 percent of total platform impressions in the country on Millennial Media’s network in Q3 2013. Twelve Samsung mobile devices were in the Top 20 Device Cateogry, representing 29 percent of total platform impressions in Indonesia in Q3 2013.
 
BlackBerry remained the second largest manufacturer quarter-over-quarter, with 16 percent impression share in Q3 2013. Four BlackBerry smartphones were in the Top 20 Devices Category, with a combined impression share of 8 percent.
 
Adoption of smartphones continued to grow in Indonesia, with smartphones accounting for 65 percent of total platform impressions and a four percentage point growth quarter-over-quarter.
 
Impressions from non-phone connected devices grew seven percentage points in Q3 2013 from the same quarter last year, representing 28 percent of platform impressions in Indonesia.
 
Android was the largest Operating System, representing 67 percent of platform impressions, followed by BlackBerry with 20 percent of platform impressions in Q3 2013.
 
Games was the largest application category, maintaining its position from the previous quarter, with a 46 percent impression uplift quarter-over-quarter. Entertainment and Music was the second largest application category in Indonesia.


India
 
In India, Samsung was the leading manufacturer with 46 percent impression share on Millennial Media’s platform in Q3 2013. 14 Samsung mobile phones found a spot in the Top 20 Devices Category for a combined impression share of 34 percent.
 
Apple was the second largest manufacturer with 13 percent impression share.
 
Apple’s iPhone was the leading mobile phone in the Top 20 Devices Category, with 8 percent impression share in Q3 2013.
 
Smartphones accounted for 78 percent of total platform impressions, followed by non- phone connected devices which had 10 percent impression share.
 
Android was the leading Operating System, representing 78 percent of platform impressions in India. iOS grew six percentage points from the same quarter a year ago and was the second largest operating system, driving 15 percent of all platform impressions.
 
“Entertainment & Music” was the largest application category based on impressions, maintaining its position from the previous quarter.
 
In Malaysia, Samsung remained as the leading manufacturer, representing 50 percent of all platform impressions on Millennial Media’s platform in Q3 2013. 17 Samsung devices were in the Top 20 Device Category, accounting for a total of 42 percent of platform impressions.
 
Apple was the second largest manufacturer with 34 percent impression share. The Apple iPad was the top device in the Top 20 Devices Category, representing 16 percent impression share of platform impressions in Q3 2013.
 
Smartphones accounted for 65 percent of all platform impressions. Impressions from non- phone connected devices grew five percentage points in Q3 2013 from the same quarter last year, representing 34 percent of platform impressions in Malaysia.
 
Android remained as the largest Operating System, representing 64 percent of all platform impressions. iOS grew 11 percent from the same quarter last year and was the second largest operating system, driving 34 percent of total platform impressions in Malaysia.
