Social Media is more than just Facebook and Twitter

MANILA, AUGUST 30, 2013 – According to AllFamous Digital chief executive officer Robin Leonard, social media multi-platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, Vine, YouTube and LinkedIn play a key role in building brands.

Leonard emphasized that Twitter and Facebook are not the only social networks. There are others such as Instagram (photos), Pinterest (pinboards), Vine (short, looping videos), YouTube (videos) and LinkedIn (social networking for professionals) that play a significant role in aiming ROI for brands.

At present, Filipinos are more exposed to Instagram for sharing their activities on the internet. Leonard advised that one of the ways to introduce brands on Instagram is to ”humanize” it. “Taking photos of your office, of the staff, of behind the scenes, another really great way is if you have you have a really very good content to share. For example, Starbucks – they take a lot of photographs of coffee, coffee foam, coffee cup, coffee products that look beautiful and worth-sharing. So there are a million different ways to use. The more the better.”

Leonard shared that Pinterest is big among female users. They may “pin” anything that linked images that they would want to share, and will helping spread awareness for the brand.

He considers Vine a personal favorite. People can share different ideas in just six seconds, and cross-post it to Facebook and Twitter.

“Tools will catch up. Social media platforms will keep on evolving.”

He said a lot of brands are becoming successful on YouTube. “Make content, not ads in YouTube. Make funny ads, useful ads, something that enhances people’s lives.”“Brands should use LinkedIn through creating awareness and improving reputation,” said Leonard.

He concludes: “When you are choosing media platforms that you want to be remarkable, it’s really important to understand what ROI is for each channel and also what the customers are. It’s all about testing, try, and see what works and what doesn’t.”
