Beacon/Leo Burnett Tokyo gives real virtual drone experience

ASIA-PACIFIC – JAPAN, MARCH 15, 2012: Beacon/Leo Burnett Tokyo created a campaign for consumers to experience the world’s first 4 prop radio controlled helicopter through a smartphone.

The campaign aims to make consumers see how the drone functions without them having to test the actual product itself. To fulfill this, Beacon/Leo Burnett Tokyo came up with the "Flying Banner" which allows consumers to maneuver a virtual drone with their smartphones. The user visits the website and activate the flying banner ad resembling the actual drone product through a QR code. Once activated, user can control the virtual drone through a smartphone which can blow up parts of the site that will reveal the ad of the product.

Through this digital campaign, awareness of the AR.Drone soared. "We achieve 3 times the level of click through expected from banner ads on livedoor.jp, one of Japan’s major news portal sites," according to the press statement.
