MANILA, APRIL 2, 2013 – Twenty-five years ago, Consuelo Zobel Alger (1914-1990) bequeathed her vast wealth and created the Consuelo Foundation to improve the lives and living conditions of disadvantaged children, women and families throughout the Philippines. Since then the Consuelo Foundation has worked and supported various organizations through direct services and effective partnerships to develop, evaluate, refine, replicate effective, innovative program models.
On April 5, 2013, a formal ceremony will be held at the Ayala Museum to commemorate the Consuelo Foundation’s 25 years of service and will be highlighted by an art exhibition entitled “Giving Hope” that gathers the artworks of children and young adults from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila.
From September 2012 to January 2013, Consuelo Foundation provided an on site art workshops in different regions around the Philippines conducted by the Creative Kids studio of Bambi Mañosa. The workshop focused on creativity as a way of life, for healing, and for empowerment. It was never meant to make craftsmen of the participants, rather, the workshop hopes to make the participants understand and utilize art as a powerful tool to express inner longings, hopes and wishes, clarify fears and confusion and verbalize thoughts in visual form. In doing so, the participants individually created their own artwork and later assembled into a large-scale collaborative work. The
artworks were created by children who are either survivors or at-risk of abuse, neglect and exploitation. They created their own interpretations of themes that resonate imageries and traditions of the different regions where the art workshops were held using a variety of materials.
The ‘Giving Hope’ exhibit is open to the public from April 6 to 10, 2013, Ground Floor Gallery, Ayala Museum, Makati City.
