Ad Stars 2014 receives over 12,000 entries

12,591 entries from 62 countries have been submitted to Ad Stars 2014, marking the 4.2 percent increase compared to 2013, according to the Ad Stars Organizing Committee.

In addition to its scale, outstanding works that were awarded at Cannes Lions, NYF, and others are also going to compete at Ad Stars, such as ‘The Epic Split’ of Volvo Trucks deputized by a Swedish advertising company, Forsman & Bodenfors Gothenburg, and ‘Sound of Honda’ by Japan’s largest advertising firm, Dentsu. These two won Film and Titanium Grand Prix at Cannes Lions respectively.

Many of the entries are submitted from Asian countries; however, the number of submissions from other continents have also increased, exhibiting Ad Stars’s increasing global recognition, particularly in Europe, Africa/the Middle East, and Oceania. For Europe, it grew by 11.4 percent year-on-year, Africa/the Middle East by 60.7 percent and Oceania by 282.8 percent. Furthermore, the nine newly joined countries include Swiss, Bulgaria, Iceland, Lebanon, and Afghanistan.

Among 23 categories, entries containing traditional platform possess higher proportion. The Print category takes up the largest of 2,646 works, and the following categories are Outdoor of 1,443 and Film of 1,209. Other categories, ‘Diverse Insights’ reflecting ideas from cultural difference and ‘Place Brand’ adverting both national and urban brands, are growing rapidly with their increased number of entries.

Submitted entries will be judged by 208 professional advertisers from 60 countries. During the festival, there will be an exhibition for finalists from each category and an award ceremony. The finalists will be announced in the middle of July. Grand Prix, including the prize-winners will be announced at the award ceremony on August 23, the last day of Ad Stars.

Ad Stars, born in 2008, the world’s first off and online converged advertising festival, has been exerting much effort to invigorate the creativity category. It takes place from August 21 to 23 at Bexco, Haeundae, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Busan Metropolitan City.
